It is with a heavy heart today that we mourn the loss of Maintenance Director Richard Shiel. Richard has been with The Hollywood Building for more than thirty years. With his team including Carlos and Blanca (pictured below with Richard on the right), this building's stellar cleanliness, upkeep, and functionality are due to his diligent and dedicated work over the past several decades.
Richard was a loyal and kind man, and we will miss him very much.
If you would like to share a memory about Richard, please leave a comment below.

I grew up coming to The Hollywood Building with my dad and grandma, and Richard was always there. He loved the building, and always took great care of it (and us). He was like family to us, and I will miss him a lot. RIP Richard.

My condolences to his family and friends and Phil. When Richard introduced himself to me 20 years ago, the twinkle in his eye charmed me. The twinkle remained ever since.

Always ready with a helping hand, expert at every maintenance task he faced, and always with a professional's efficiency, Richard was hell-bent to make sure that my office was as comfortable and well-functioning as it could be. He never said an unkind word about anyone, and always finished his work with me with a firm handshake and a cheerful smile.

I have missed him these last few months. This building is not the same without him. Rest in peace, Richard.

Richard will be missed. My condolences to his family and the staff at the Hollywood building. He came from a different era of a no nonsense approach to dealing with problems in the building. If we ever had a problem or concern he was there to make sure things got resolved. His work ethic and professionalism will be missed. RIP,

Blanca, Carlos, Elizabeth & I want to thank everyone individually and collectively for your kind words and support. Richard was so much more than a Director of Maintenance. He set the standard for the environment of this special place which has been so good to us all for so very long and on so many different levels. We now promise to you all and to ourselves to maintain the high level of work-ethic, safety, comfort, cleanliness, cosmetics and personal attention that Richard has established.
God Bless Richard and his family and all of us who have been left better for having known him.

I was introduced to Richard Shiel in 1986 by his step-father, Emanuel Lawrence, who showed me, my family, and taught Richard and the world just what state-of-the art property management looks like. And which 40,000 square feet on planet Earth could possibly be a better place for that than The Hollywood Building? And what better unique and perfect connection than that unique building and this unique man?

It was the building - the actual structure, bricks, bronze, mahogany and marble which afforded Richard the opportunity to show work-ethic, and dedication and pride and soul which had an immediate positive impact for us all on so many levels and changed Richard right in front of our eyes into a calmer, more focused, property manager, husband, father and better person.

"Love what you do and keep on doing it" - The Richard Shiel Story.

"It's all alright, man." "Nothing good ever happens before it's time." "Have faith in God and Christ in heaven." I hope to hear Richards voice in my head forever. And I hope all of Richard's & Vickie's kids hear it and feel him too. I hope they
realize that no matter what they've already been through and whatever is yet to come for them, that both their parents love them all (individually and collectively) very, very much and still want the absolute best for them. I hope that all of Richard and Vickie's children tune in and keep in close touch with their Uncle David. There is much to be learned and absorbed from David and Rose as they are amongst the very few who dwell
in the house of the most righteous. Hearing good things about all those kids will surelyhelp soothe us who love Richard and his family, and feel greatly honored and lucky to have known him, and who want for his spirit to live on forever around those he loves as well as the building he loves, took great pride, and where he always wanted to be.
