Q & A with the Manager

Phil Erenberg is manager and owner of The Hollywood Building. He also holds all the building's historical facts and best-kept secrets. Let's get to know him. 

Q: How long have you been managing The Hollywood Building?
A: This is now my 31st year as manager.  

Q: Wonderful! How was it managed before you?
A: Well, the building has been in the family since it was (re)built in 1934. My grandfather and then my mother each made it what it is. Also in 1934, my father began his distinguished 58-year medical practice two years after winning the silver medal in Gymnastics (Club Swinging) in the 1932 Olympics at the L.A. Coliseum. Some of  his renowned patients in 1934 included Elizabeth Taylor, Orson Welles, Raymond Burr, Ann Southern, Roddy McDowall (whom he actually delivered), and Sam Balter.

Q: What great history! Since the building is so historic, what are some if its modern features?
A: I'm proud that we maintain and provide great modern amenities, from temperature control to security, as well as over-the-top maintenance and cosmetics. Bronze, marble & Phillipine Mahogany circa 1930 make it truly gorgeous. The location is also great, being in the exact center of Hollywood, Ramond Chandler Square, on the Walk of Fame, and also in the Business Improvement District (HBID), which offers Uniformed Security officers on Segway scooters, and daily steam-cleaning of the entire neighborhood. 

Q: What have been your proudest moments in your career managing this building?
A: The great feedback I get from tenants about how happy they are here, and seeing people who have been here for so many years. 

Q: Anything else to add? 
A: Hollywood isn't just a state of mind.  Hollywood is a state of being.
